U13s continue winning start to season with victory over Frome.

WCFC U13s made it 3 wins in a row with a well deserved victory over Frome at a sunny but breezy Northbrook yesterday. The Badgers made a bright start to the game, exploiting the 3 man Frome defence. Within 2 minutes a break down the right allowed Jack to put in a great ball across the 6 yard box which just evaded the lunge of strike partner Louis. It was no surprise then when the Badgers took the lead. Man of the match Theo, playing the holding midfielder role, put a fantastic ball through the left channel for the non-stop William D to fire a powerful shot high into the Frome net. A second followed soon after when another Badgers' move let Jack in, with the final touch coming from the unfortunate Frome keeper. The Badgers were rampant at this stage, with Lewis and Jenson looking particularly threatening down the wings. Sporadic Frome pressure was dealt with comfortably by skipper Oli at sweeper, again leading the team by example, central defensive partner Bailey and Teddy and Ashton at full backs. The 2nd quarter continued in the same manner, but the next goal was somewhat fortuitous when a Badgers' effort hit the post only for the ball to cannon into the net off an unfortunate Frome defender to give the Badgers a commanding 3-0 half time lead. In the third quarter the game became more stretched and open. As Frome pushed men forward to get back in the game, the Badgers counterattacked with devastating effect, executing passing moves straight from the training ground. A precise through ball by Theo put Jack clear and he coolly rounded the keeper for his second goal of the season and the Badger's 4th. Frome then forced Badger's keeper Eddie into his first save of the game with a smart reaction stop from close range. The game was now a thrilling end-to-end affair. Bailey had a shot from the left saved after Sonny, now running Frome ragged on the right, played him in. Teddy then burst through from left back onto a through ball from midfield dynamo Morgan only to pull his shot narrowly wide and Ashton, marching forward from full back, put Bailey in again for a shot which rattled the outside of the post. However, Frome were far from finished and a strong break down the right from their most impressive player ended with him squeezing the ball through Eddie's legs, to leave the score 4 - 1 at the end of quarter 3. The final quarter saw Frome enjoy their most dominant period of the game as the Badgers lost their shape and their workload dropped. Only some heroic last ditch defending from Jacob at full back kept them out but finally, like the Buzzard circling overhead looking for prey, Frome pounced and scored a second with a shot which nestled into the bottom corner of the Badgers' net. And so it ended 4-2 with the Badgers deservedly winning as a result of their strong first half performance against a determined and hardworking Frome in a high entertaining game played in excellent spirt by both teams.
