All the basics covered nicely

A sunny day in late September is a lovely time for football, unless your running around like a headless chicken.

WnC made the best of if by choosing to give the ball away slightly less that their opposition. That coupled with a bit too much quality made it an easy afternoon, in surroundings, and against opposition, that will not be as easy for others that have to play there.

12 men arrived, still no sign of Davies, through an unfortunate injury, and without everpresents, Black and Churches, on paper this was to be a tough game.

In the reverse fixture last season, Alderbury were 3-0 to the good before WnC had arisen from their post-school slumbers. Not so this game. The quality of the midfield play, coupled with some neat interchanges put Ed Cooke in for the first of 3, and Robbie Maclean in for the first of 2. The defence kept the opposition down to 2 shots all day, both of which were superbly dealt with by stand in keeper, Joe Skinner.

The second half heralded a spell of better possession, with no end product for the home team, but once this initial 10 minute phase was complete, the match returned to the composed possession and razor sharp thrusts from WnC.

Ed Cooke and Robbie Maclean wrapped things up with 2 and 1 goals respectively.

Assists go to James Stobbart for 2, Franky for 1, and Robbie for 2, and Ed for 1.

At the end of the day, a comfortable win, but expect things to be tougher against Westbury, who are good at making a big pitch small, and they play on a small pitch as well......
